The Shaanxi Archaeology Museum, located in Chang'an District in Xi'an City, is China's first specialized archaeological museum. Designed by the renowned architect and Chinese Academy of Engineering academician, Zhang Jinqiu of the Northwest Architectural Design Institute, the museum building adopts a Tang Dynasty architectural style with a garden-like design. It comprises "one museum and five centers," including the museum itself, a research building, an information center, a scientific archaeology center, and a public archaeology center.

Lighting Design Story

A Heavy and Harmonious Comfortable Lighting Environment The Shaanxi Archaeology Museum is a public building. Given its special usage characteristics, the lighting design should highlight its historical profundity, and the overall atmosphere should be coordinated with the surrounding environment to form an integrated night - time lighting environment. The lighting effect of the archaeology museum should keep up with the development of the times and incorporate modern technology. Whether in the selection of lighting techniques or lighting fixtures, the concept of choosing the best should be adhered to, providing the public with a comfortable lighting environment space.

Lighting for the main building

According to the architectural features and planning layout, when considering the overall night view of the main building of the museum, the night - time lighting of the fifth facade of the building needs to be taken into account. The Public Archaeology Center and the Visitor Center belong to the open areas and auxiliary buildings, and for the overall lighting layout, the lighting of the four facades should be considered.

Lighting for auxiliary buildings

For internal areas such as the scientific research building, the logistics and power center, the information center, and the scientific and technological archaeology center, the night - time lighting of the building facades can be appropriately reduced. The night - time lighting of the entire internal space can be considered from the east, west, and south facades.

Integration of lighting fixtures and architecture

The lighting fixtures are carefully arranged in combination with the building's shape to achieve the effect of seeing the light but not the fixtures.

Hardscape lighting

For the hardscape areas, the lighting design emphasizes high brightness and strong guidance. While ensuring sufficient functional lighting brightness and comfort, ground lighting fixtures are added to enhance guidance and rhythm, following the paving texture and spatial traffic flow. These are integrated into the unified control system of the building lighting, seamlessly merging the two-dimensional ground with the three-dimensional architecture.

Softscape lighting

For the soft landscapes in the park, such as trees, shrubs, lawns, and water systems, lighting methods that mainly feature dimness and tranquility are adopted for shaping, creating a mysterious and serene atmosphere.

More Information

Innovative Points of Lighting Design

The plan adopts an advanced overall lighting intelligent control method. The system can adopt a time - control scheme based on the local sunrise and sunset times and illuminance values. It can automatically remotely control the lights on and off through a wireless channel, and can also meet the needs of managers to turn on the lights at any time within the park through a mobile phone. It truly realizes the intelligent dynamic control technology within the region.

Architectural Lighting Renderings

For the lighting of the building's exterior facade, floodlighting is mainly carried out on the Chinese - style domes and eaves light troughs, and wall - washing lighting is carried out on the main building's facade.

Landscape Lighting Renderings

For the garden landscape part, low - level ambient lighting and outline guiding lighting are mainly carried out on the hard steps, low walls of the corridors, shrub lawns, and water areas.

Energy - saving Measures and Effects

All the lighting in this project uses energy - saving LED lamps. The entire lighting control system is built on a standard Ethernet network. By using TCP/IP networking technology, a lighting control engine is adopted to manage scene modes. The building lighting can be divided into festival and normal states. Through the unified construction of IT infrastructure and comprehensive consideration of safety and performance, a stable, reliable, and high - performance command and dispatching center is created to meet the rapidly developing business needs of facility integrated management.

Technical Specifications of Lighting Products

The selection of lighting fixtures adheres to the principles of high efficiency, energy - saving, and easy maintenance, aiming to achieve a lighting effect with a proper balance of brightness and darkness and high artistic quality. A large number of flexible silicone light strips and linear wall - washing lights are used, which fit perfectly with the forms of the architecture and landscape. Lighting equipment must meet requirements such as waterproofing, dust - proofing, corrosion - resistance, and anti - fall, so as to ensure long - term, energy - saving, safe, and stable operation.
