SUNZOOM IMAGE Art Center, Located within the Xi'an Film Studio, is designed as a pure exhibition space. The designers minimized the color palette, maximizing the sense of pure spatial presence. Employing Constructivist principles, the original structural columns are reinterpreted through the techniques of connection, combination, and interweaving of "volumes."
Spatial boundaries are transformed into relationships between multiple boxes. Linear lighting acts as a tool to dissect and delineate these volumes, rendering them independent from one another. Varying light intensities express the different gray scales of the interior structures, imbuing them with greater presence.
In this space, light subtly recedes into the background, clearly highlighting what should be emphasized while remaining unobtrusive. It's a restrained design; recessed and linear lighting avoid vying for attention. The subtle power of linear lighting is perfectly demonstrated in this work.
